Can ChatGPT Do My Color Analysis?

By Kyshel Belnap, certified 22-season color analyst · October 20, 2026

ChatGPT and other AI tools can give you a guess at your color season, but they can't do a true color analysis. They only see a photo, and lighting, camera settings, filters and screens all change how your skin looks. When I asked AI about my own undertone, it said "neutral-cool." In-person draping showed I'm neutral.

How to Tell If Your Undertone Is Warm, Cool or Neutral (5 At-Home Tests)

What happened when I tried AI on myself?

I did five at-home undertone tests and then asked AI to weigh in. My results were mixed:

  • My veins look blue and purple, which suggests cool.
  • I look good in both silver and gold, which suggests neutral.
  • My skin looks pink next to white paper, which suggests cool.
  • I burn, then tan, which leans neutral.
  • AI put me as neutral-cool.

Then I draped warm, cool and neutral colors near my face. The warm drape was a little too warm, the cool drape needed more warmth, and the neutral drape was clearly best. I'm neutral, and my palette is Classic Soft.

Why can't AI see your true colors from a photo?

  • Lighting: indoor bulbs, shade and sunlight all shift your skin warmer or cooler.
  • Cameras: phones adjust white balance and smooth skin automatically.
  • Screens: the same photo looks different on every screen.
  • Surface color: redness or a tan can hide your real undertone, which is what tricked the paper test for me.
  • No drapes: a color analysis watches how your face changes next to each color. A photo can't show that.

What is AI good for?

AI is helpful for learning color analysis terms, getting outfit ideas once you know your season, and organizing a shopping list around your palette. It's a good assistant after an analysis, not a replacement for one.

How is an in-person color analysis different?

In my studio in Pleasant View, near Ogden, I use professional drapes in controlled lighting to test your undertone, value, chroma and contrast side by side. You'll see the differences in the mirror yourself and leave with your season in the 22-palette system and a digital swatch with 120+ colors.
